5 Simple Ways That Sellers Can Elevate Their Space

Whether you plan to list soon or sometime in the future, you are probably looking around your home for ways to refresh and elevate your space. You may start to look at it from a buyer’s perspective and see certain areas of your home through a new lens. Before you get overwhelmed at the prospect of completing large, expensive renovations, there are a few simple ways to give your home a more luxurious feel without breaking the bank. We will take a look at 5 simple ways sellers can elevate their space!

1. A Fresh Coat of Paint

You might hear this everywhere, but it really is true! A fresh coat of paint will reset your room. Over time, surfaces fade, turn yellow or get scuff marks, so adding a touch of paint will completely transform and refresh your space. If you want to take things even further, consider painting the trim and the doors.

2. Hardware

If you really want to give your home a more luxurious feel, replacing the hardware is a very simple way to elevate your space. We tend to forget about hardware since it is more functional than decorative, but it can completely modernize your entire room! Depending on when you purchased your home, trends have likely since changed. For example, silver hardware used to be the most popular route, but many homeowners are now switching to matte black or brushed gold. It may surprise you just how much of an impact this small change can make!

When most people think about hardware, they envision their kitchen cabinets. You can take it even further and change up your door knobs, any built-in cabinets you may have, as well as your bathroom vanities, towel racks, or toilet paper holders.

3. Outlet Covers

This one is so simple, inexpensive and very often forgotten about completely! Changing out your discoloured outlet covers for fresh, white ones will really leave your home looking polished. Like your walls and other high-contact surfaces, they can become stained, faded or discoloured over time. All you will need is a screwdriver; those outlet covers can be swapped out for something fresh and modern.

4. Lighting

Lighting can completely turn around your space. If your home has builder’s grade or fluorescent lights, adding a light fixture will completely change the feel of a room and elevate your space. Say goodbye to those flush-mount dome lights, and incorporate different light fixtures that improve functionality and aesthetic. There are so many different styles available that will match the aesthetic you are aiming for with your room, and you can find lights at many price points, from high-end lights to inexpensive lighting, from places like Amazon or Ikea.

5. Plants

Houseplants are a great way to breathe life into your space, as they quite literally produce oxygen and can improve air quality. Not only that, but they also add a pop of green and introduce an earthy, natural element to your home. Learn more about staging with houseplants and the benefits of adding houseplants to your home here

You can also apply this to backyard decks, front porches and even your front lawn. If you have a pet or other reasons why you can’t keep houseplants in the home, there are many simple ways to dress up your exterior with plants. Potted plants will take your curb decor up a notch and is a simple way to give your curb appeal a quick refresh. Adding a small garden with annuals will elevate your landscape too!
