Impress Buyers By Boosting Your Home’s Curb Appeal This Spring

Spring is a fantastic time to sell your home! The spring market is ramping up quickly, but often homeowners are still dealing with the logistics of frozen ground, a layer of mud and even snowfall. It can be difficult to achieve that gorgeous summer curb appeal with unpredictable weather in the earlier spring months. While buyers understand the spring weather is a factor, making that excellent first impression is always top of mind when marketing your home for sale.

Luckily, we have some great tips for creating stunning curb appeal for your home even in the fussy spring months.

Keep your home clear of debris as the snow melts

The melting snow tends to reveal tons of surprises mother nature left behind during the fall months! Mud, sticks, leaves, debris, and even litter that may have been blown around by the wind. While certain elements like mud and dirt may not be fixable, on milder days any loose debris can be cleared where possible. This will make a tremendous impact on your home’s curb appeal since it will contribute to less exterior clutter.

Clearing any extra clutter around your home’s exterior is the next most important step to take to enhance your home’s curb appeal. Remove any waste bins, trailers, or boats from the driveway. Remove any gardening tools, equipment, especially your winter shovels, and unused décor items (or décor items that are not seasonally relevant) will also clear up your exterior space around your home and give it that excellent curb appeal that will impress buyers.

Create an Inviting Entrance

It’s all about those first impressions! Create an entrance that buyers will fall in love with and feel welcomed into your home. This can be done very simply.

Landscaping and planting a lush garden may not be possible in the early spring months, but adding a few hardy container plants will green up your entrance until Mother Nature is able to catch up! Tulips, daffodils and hyacinths are great, hardy spring plants that will add a brilliant pop of colour. You can mix in some hardy greenery as well. If a surprise winter-like storm is on the horizon, or an exceptionally chilly night approaches, you can simply pop your container plants in a garage or mudroom until it passes.

Daffodils in Snow

Painting your front door and trim is another great way to freshen up your front porch and breathe new life into your entrance after a punishingly cold winter. You can touch it up by keeping your same colour scheme or you can explore different colours for a nice change!

Lastly, a great way to liven up your front entrance that will make buyers feel like they are finally home is by adding a welcome mat. A nice clean coco coir mat with a simple welcome design will go a long way in making your exterior more inviting.

A few extra tips to remember for creating an inviting entrance is that less is more. It can be easy to go overboard, but that can ultimately be distracting to your home’s natural charm. A clean, bright entrance is much better than having too much clutter. Check out our blog on tips to declutter your home for more tips on decluttering.

Keep up with Spring Home Maintenance

When home maintenance is being neglected, it is very apparent, so keeping up with your spring home maintenance should always be top of mind, especially when you are selling your home. Cleaning gutters and care will contribute to better curb appeal overall and will have your house in the best shape possible for buyers. Finishing Touches!

Adding some exterior lighting, either functional or decorative will impress buyers and boost your home’s curb appeal. This is especially beneficial during the spring since we know that the days are starting to get longer, but evening showings may still be darker hours of the day. Since the exterior is often a great selling point, consider adding conversation areas or outdoor living spaces (Remember, less is more when it comes to décor!).

Finally, make sure your entrance and pathways are clear of snow, mud or ice as well. Depending on how many showings your home has scheduled, you may want to incorporate this into your daily routine so pathways are clean and clear at all times.
