How To Ring In 2021 This New Year’s Eve

The new year is upon us and, for most, the official countdown could not come sooner! While end-of-the-year celebrations look different this year, there’s no better time to get outdoors or enjoy virtual events to ring in the New Year.

Here are five fun (and safe!) ways you and your family can say goodbye to 2020, and welcome a brighter 2021:

1. Barrie’s Online Downtown Countdown 

This year, Barrie’s Downtown Countdown has moved online! Tune in to the City of Barrie’s Facebook page or YouTube channel at 7 pm to take part in the festivities. The event will feature a performance by Splash’N Boots, followed by a family countdown, making it a great way to celebrate New Year’s Eve with little ones.

2. Luma Light Trail At Friday Harbour

Get in the New Year’s spirit under thousands of twinkling lights at Friday Harbour. Reservations are required to walk along the one kilometre path, and tickets can be purchased here. This magical experience is available all winter long.

3. Get Outside

Nothing’s more quintessentially Canadian than celebrating New Year’s Eve in the snow! Although local ski hills are affected by provincial closures, getting fresh air and enjoying the beauty of nature boosts the human spirit. Grab a warm beverage and walk along the sidewalks in your neighbourhood, play in the snow and make some noise when you ring in the new year under the stars.

4. Virtual Times Square New Year’s Eve Countdown

An international New Year’s tradition, this year’s Times Square Countdown is more interactive than ever. Enjoy live performances and special guests before the ball drops, but this year’s event will also feature a virtual reality component, games, and the ability to personalize your stream of the party through specialized apps. Online events begin December 19th, and will continue until January 3rd.
