Selling your house this holiday season?
Staging your home for the real estate market while simultaneously trying to maintain some semblance of your favourite holiday traditions can be tricky. It’s important to create a warm and inviting atmosphere at any time of the year, however, the holiday season can be quite a challenge for some to keep their Santa collections constrained.
If you decide to put up lights, it is best to keep them all one neutral colour, preferably white. Forgo the many lawn and garden ornaments this year, but rather add a simple wreath to your door for a festive touch. A wreath made from fresh pine boughs or boxwood braid offers a simple and elegant accent and are sold at many home stores throughout Simcoe County.
Everyone has different tastes in décor, including holiday decorations. Potential buyers viewing your home may not appreciate your attempt at a magical winter wonderland; it could be perceived as clutter, making it harder for these buyers to envision how they would decorate the space.
Having a multi-colour décor palette can sometimes make your home feel busy and cluttered. Using natural tones and textures is a great way to create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere that everyone will love. You can even embellish by accenting with a little white, gold or silver for a bit of bling.
Often, Christmas trees require you to rearrange your interior space to accommodate its girth. It is a great idea to do a smaller, less intrusive tree, or even a table-top style tree while selling your house. This way, prospective buyers can move throughout the room with ease and see the space and style of the room with less distraction.
If you usually cover the entire mantel with Santa’s village and children’s pictures of Christmas’ past, perhaps opt for using a minimalist approach this year instead. One easy trick is using candles along the mantel so that the attention is drawn towards the fireplace (which is often the focal point of the space). This approach allows you to enjoy the holiday season without overwhelming potential buyers. Just keep it simple.
Getting your home ready for sale in the real estate market during the holidays can still be fun and festive, and will likely draw serious buyers over the holiday season.Keep these basic staging suggestions in mind, and remember it’s only temporary. Your efforts will surely bring you closer to your new home where you can celebrate and decorate next Christmas to the nines!
