We first looked at Painswick, and this week, we are putting the spotlight on central Barrie. Here are features, highlights, and stories from the neighbourhoods of Allandale and Mapleview.
Location: Central Barrie bordering along the south shoreline of Kempenfelt Bay

Highlights & History: The Allandale GO Train Station plays a central significance to the identity of the Allandale community, located along the south end of Lakeshore Boulevard at the cross-section of Essa Road and Tiffin Street. Originally the Grand Trunk Railway, it expanded into the current Allandale yard at the turn of the 19th century. The aptly named South Shore Park is situated on the south shore of Kempenfelt Bay, providing a gorgeous walking and biking path. The Southshore Community Centre was formerly the Master Mechanics building for the railway and incorporates this heritage into the modern banquet facility it is known for today. Residents enjoy recreational amenities at the Allandale Recreation Centre as well as the convenient proximity to city amenities in this commuter’s locale.

Outdoor Amenities: Mapleton Park, Veterans Woods Park, Innisbrook Golf Course, and National Pines Golf Club

Local Attraction: Barrie Molson Centre
Highlights & History: Encompassing the renowned Mapleview Drive shopping district, the Mapleview community is Barrie’s well-known southern hub. Communities within this neighbourhood benefit from the close proximity to many urban amenities. Commercial influences include the popular Park Place shopping and dining centre at Mapleview Road and Bayview Drive. What was formerly the Molson Brewery and Molson Park outdoor concert venue is now the Barrie Molson Centre arena which is home to the Barrie Colts OHL hockey team. The Mapleview neighbourhood is also home to the new Barrie Primary Care Campus located on Bayview Drive.
