Some traditions look different this holiday season, but one that remains the same is the joy and wonder that stems from seeing twinkling, festive lights. Whether they’re strung along your home, or hung from boughs of trees inside and out, Christmas light displays across our communities are just the dose of merriment we need this winter.
Here is a selection of light displays taking place across Simcoe County you and your loved ones can safely enjoy.
The community of Innisfil has collaborated to create a local competition for the best residential holiday light displays. Free for passersby to enjoy, participants have made a donation to enter the event, which will be judged by residents of Innisfil. All money raised supports Innisfil’s Food Bank and Christmas 4 Kids.

Once again this year, Barrie Resident Dino Sanguiliano is collecting donations for the Make-a-Wish Foundation in exchange for showcasing his impressive home light display. Set to music, this delight for the eyes is guaranteed to bolster holiday spirit.

This stunning light display put on by a local Angus family is one not to be missed! Enjoy from your vehicle and listen to the accompanying music through your radio. In lieu of cash donations this year they are asking those who attend to donate to their local food banks/organizations.

The lights and festive décor at Blue Mountain Village are definitely something to see this season! Enjoy a stroll down the cobblestone streets of the village and take in all of the sights and sounds of the holidays.

The town of Penetanguishine has mapped out must-see Christmas light displays in the community for residents to enjoy. Beginning December 4th you can download the map from their website and begin your exploration of this Festival of Lights anytime until Christmas.

Go and marvel at 80,000 twinkling lights, 50 warm light spheres and 50 hanging baskets lining the streets of Historic Downtown Orillia. Seeing the beautiful Christmas tree elegantly decorated and lit is a thing of beauty and worth a drive through the sparkling downtown core. You can also tune in here to catch a recording of the livestream tree lighting ceremony, complete with “live” festive music, a message from the Mayor and a beautiful view of the display!

Barrie’s waterfront dons beautiful festive lights for everyone to enjoy this season. Put on by the Rotary Club of Barrie, these lights are looked forward to by locals every year. Take a stroll down the waterfront or view from the comfort of a warm vehicle along Lakeshore Drive. With 33,000 thousand bulbs adorning 480 light strands, this annual Festival of Trees delivers on lighting up downtown Barrie.

Where: Meridian Place and Barrie’s Waterfront
Local farmers in Minesing have come together to doll up their tractors for a unique light display for residents. They are collecting donations for Elmvale Food Bank, and are asking community members to enjoy the view from their own driveways, windows or alongside the road, standing only with members from the same household. Get in the Christmas spirit under thousands of twinkling lights at Friday Harbour. Reservations are required to walk along the one kilometre path, and tickets can be purchased here. This magical experience will be available all winter long and you can look forward to a toasty Starbucks beverage provided at the end of the trail!
When: November-March, Thursdays-Sundays from 5:00pm-9:00pm
Where: Friday Harbour, Innisfil
Together with local businesses, clubs and organizations, Hewitts Farm Market has created 25 illuminated exhibits for the community to experience. The cost of admission is $10 per car and the first 100 guests receive coupons for free cookies! Head out with the family to enjoy the various creative festive themes from the comfort of your car.
